Spring Romance with Essential Oils

Written by: S. Pagano | May 3, 2002

Once again spring is upon us. The birds and bees are doing their thing; can you feel it in the air? No?

It is not uncommon for men and women to experience a lack of libido now and then due to a wide range of influences such as stress, injury, or illness. In women, pelvic trauma and menopause can often cause problems for them, and their significant others.

For women, single oils of Geranium, Clary Sage, Nutmeg, Jasmine, Rose and Ylang Ylang* are very beneficial.

For men, single oils of Cinnamon, Myrrh, Black pepper, Pine, Ginger, Nutmeg, Rose and Ylang Ylang* can be helpful.

(* These oils are sensitizing to the skin and should not be used every day.)

I have been using Jasmine and Frankincense. Although I haven't found any documentation that suggests Frankincense simulates the libido, I can tell you that it is pretty effective (it works on men, too!), and it seems to enhance the effects of the Jasmine when used together. Frankincense is high in sesquiterpenes that simulate the limbic system of the brain, as well as the hypothalmus, pineal and pituitary glands. Frankincense is also supportive of the immune system, and it is compatible with all other oils.

As always, use common sense when applying essential oils. Some are soothing to the skin and some can be irritating. If you are using aromatic oils remember you may affect those who you come in close contact with, so be careful if your significant other doesn't need any help in this area!
